This article concerns an overview of various anniversaries, related to the Atari companies and products.
In doing so, we stem from i.a. the overview of Atari History In Dates, which you can find in FLOP 63.
So what do we commemorate regarding Atari in 2023?
40 years of Infogrames Entertainment, SA.
In June 1983, Infogrames was founded, which later bought (several times over) the remaining assets of the original Atari. In 2009, it then renamed itself Atari, SA and continues to operate as such to this day.
Some Atari machines also have anniversaries:
- Atari 1200 XL, 600 XL and 800 XL - 40 years since market launch;
- Atari 1050 (disk drive) - 40 years since market launch;
- Atari Falcon030 (32bit computer) - 30 years since market launch;
- Atari Jaguar (game console) - 30 years since market launch.
Beside that, we also have some local anniversaries:
- MultiJoy interface (R. Štěrba, 1998) - 25 years since public release;
- SDrive (R. Štěrba, R. Petružela, 2008) - 15 years since public release;
- CosmosEx (M. Nohaj, 2013) - 10 years since market launch;
- AVGCart (M. Gábor, 2018) - 5 years since market launch.
And we also remember several personal anniversaries:
- Ray Kassar (* 1928-01-02), president of the second ATARI, INC. was born 95 years ago;
- Jack Tramiel (* 1928-12-13), founder and president of Atari, Corp. was born 95 years ago;
- Nolan Bushnell (* 1943-02-05), founder of the first ATARI, INC. celebrated his 80th birthday;
- Al Alcorn (* 1948-01-01), designer of Pong, Atari VCS, etc. celebrated his 75th birthday;
- Ted Dabney (+ 2018-05-26), co-founder of the first ATARI, INC. has died 5 years ago.
So let's remember them. Without them, Atari would not be as we know it.
